Om Devī Shailaputryai Namah – Grounding & Purity of Heart

Hello My Dear Soul,

Today, let’s talk about the mantra of Goddess Shailaputri !

Navaratri, the festival of the Divine Mother, begins with the worship of Goddess Shailaputri. She is the first manifestation of Durga, daughter of the mountains (śaila meaning “mountain” and putrī meaning “daughter”), symbolizing purity, strength, and the grounding energy of Mother Earth.

Chanting the mantra ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः – Om Devī Shailaputryai Namah invokes her blessings, bringing stability, devotion, and the courage to begin the spiritual journey with a pure heart.

The Mantra in Sanskrit

ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः ॥

Om Devī Shailaputryai Namah

Translation

“Salutations to the Divine Goddess Shailaputri,
daughter of the mountains, embodiment of purity and strength.”

The Symbolism of Shailaputri

Shailaputri rides a bull (Nandi) and holds a trident in one hand and a lotus in the other. She is the embodiment of Mother Nature and represents the grounding force that sustains all life.

She is associated with the Muladhara (Root) Chakra, the foundation of energy and stability. Worshipping her helps align this chakra, awakening the path of spiritual ascent.

On the first day of Navaratri, devotees honor Shailaputri to establish the foundation of their spiritual practice, much like roots anchoring a great tree.

The Spiritual Benefits of Chanting

Chanting this mantra connects you with the stabilizing energy of the Earth, anchoring the mind and calming restlessness.

🌸 Courage and Strength
Her energy instills fearlessness, determination, and resilience to overcome obstacles on both the material and spiritual paths.

🌸 Purity of Heart
As the daughter of the mountains, Shailaputri represents simplicity and purity. Invoking her opens the heart to devotion and humility.

🌸 Awakening of the Root Chakra
This mantra harmonizes the Muladhara, creating a stable foundation for higher spiritual awakening.

The Power of Red Jasper

✨ It anchors your energy during meditation and mantra chanting.
✨ Used with Om Devī Shailaputryai Namah, it deepens the connection to Shailaputri’s energy and brings protection.

You can hold Red Jasper during your meditation, place it on your altar, or keep it near you during Navaratri rituals.

A Simple Meditation with the Mantra

  1. Sit comfortably, holding Red Jasper in your hand or placing it near your Root Chakra.
  2. Breathe deeply, visualizing a glowing red light at the base of your spine.
