Om Devī Kuśmāṇḍāyai Namah – Cosmic Radiance

Hello My Dear Soul,

Today, let’s talk about the mantra of Goddess Kushmanda !

On the fourth day of Navaratri, devotees worship Goddess Kushmanda, the radiant form of Durga who is said to have created the universe with her divine smile. Her name comes from three words: Ku (a little), Ushma (warmth or energy), and Anda (cosmic egg). Together, they mean “the one who created the universe from the cosmic egg with a little warmth.”

Chanting the mantra ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः – Om Devī Kuśmāṇḍāyai Namah invokes her blessings of vitality, joy, and creative power. She is the light that dispels darkness and fills life with positivity and divine energy.

The Mantra in Sanskrit

ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः ॥

Om Devī Kuśmāṇḍāyai Namah

Translation

“Salutations to the Divine Goddess Kushmanda,
source of cosmic light, vitality, and creation.”

The Symbolism of Kushmanda

Kushmanda is depicted with eight arms (hence also called Ashtabhuja Devi), holding divine weapons, a rosary, and a pot of nectar (amrit kalash). She rides a lion, symbolizing strength and courage.

She is revered as the creator of the universe, the spark of divine energy that set the cosmos in motion. Her smile radiates warmth, nurturing the world with light and vitality.

She is associated with the Anahata (Heart) Chakra, representing love, compassion, and balance. Worshipping her awakens the heart to divine joy and harmony.
